Job Description
The Assistant Director of Nursing for the Prelicensure Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) is an 11-month administrative faculty contract position that will report directly to the Executive Director for the School of Nursing (SoN). There are two open positions, one is in Southern Arizona currently serving Yuma and Tucson locations and one is in Northern Arizona currently serving Flagstaff, North Valley, and Tuba City. This position assists with providing leadership in the management and implementation of the prelicensure BSN programs within a designated region.
They will participate in budget preparation and fiscal administration, curriculum development and coordination, determination of teaching assignments, supervision and evaluation of faculty, and selection/coordination of program specific external clinical facilities and instruction in conjunction with the Executive Director. This position will provide professional leadership, and support for teaching faculty; serve as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and responsibility. They provide oversight and availability with our school partners, involvement with student activities, initiating curriculum changes and marketing updates. This position will also be assessing space available to accommodate new or expanding programs within assigned region.
Minimum Qualifications
Assistant Clinical Professor:
- Master's degree in Nursing or Master's degree in related field
- 3 years of nursing clinical experience
- Prior nursing teaching experience
- BSN prepared RN
- Eligible for RN license in Arizona
Associate Clinical Professor: All of the above, and
- 6 years of fulltime teaching nursing at college or university
- National certification in nursing specialty or related field OR Doctoral degree in nursing or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using simulation technology
- Prior experience teaching in baccalaureate/graduate education
- Doctoral degree in nursing or related field
- Teaching experience in nursing using distance learning technology
- Patient care experience
- Experience with rural health care
- Advanced practice certification in nursing or related field
- Experience working with people of culturally diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous populations
- Demonstrated service and community outreach and partnership within designated region

Background Information
This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. This is an Administrative Faculty (ADF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); 22 days of vacation, sick leave accruals, and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the NAU HR benefits page. Administrative Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable annually according to the terms of offer. Upon completion of the administrative assignment, employees will return to the faculty role, renewable according to the Conditions of Faculty Service. Academic year (9 month) faculty do not accrue vacation. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
